Meyer Family Hosts Annual Plant Sale to Benefit PORCH

About five years ago, avid home gardener Kym Meyer devised a plan to share her abundance of seedlings – tomatoes, chilis, eggplants, flowers, and more. “I always plant too many seeds,” she admits.

She reached out to her neighbors, letting them know what was up for grabs, and she suggested that any takers donate to PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro in return.

An annual spring fundraiser was born. Today, the event features a guest list of dozens of people and a homemade brunch prepared by Kym and her husband, Graig. The Meyers collect cash for PORCH. Plus, some guests donate directly online. The gathering generates more than $2,000 for PORCH each year.

“PORCH is an appropriate beneficiary,” Kym says. “They do really good and straightforward direct service work. And given that this is food related, it’s appropriate. And it’s super local.”
