What is the Food for Families Program?

Each month, through our Food for Families program, we distribute large boxes of fresh produce, milk, eggs, non-perishable food, and grocery gift cards to program participants.

Who is eligible for the Food for Families Program?

The Food for Families program serves local families with children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools living at or below the poverty level. This program is a monthly food pick up distribution, and participants must have transportation or a friend or family member that can drive to the site to pick up the food each month.

How can I apply for the Food for Families Program?

You can work with your child’s School Social Worker to fill out an online application for the PORCH Food for Families Program. When you fill out this application, you also have the choice to apply for TABLE & IFC’s food assistance programs at the same time. Once you fill out your application, we will call to review your application as soon as we have an opening in our program. Participant applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received.

How will I receive my food once I am enrolled into the program?

Food for Families participants are required to pick up their food at a distribution site each month. Participants must have transportation or a friend or family member that can pick up the food each month. Each month, participants will receive a postcard in the mail reminding them of their pickup day and time. They must bring this postcard with them when picking up their food.
