Dear PORCH Community,

In 2020, PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro nearly doubled our impact over the previous year, delivering $730,000 in hunger relief to our neighbors during a time of intense hardship. Our inspiring community saw an urgent need and stepped in to help. The story of PORCH in 2021 is one of increased support – about 200 volunteers are now serving an all-time high of 506 families and 2,135 individuals each month. We are on track to provide more than $800,000 of hunger relief this year – we have already distributed 200,000 pounds of fresh produce, 120,000 eggs, 5,000 gallons of milk, 4,500 chickens, and more than 6,000 bags of nonperishable food. But we need your help in order to continue this work.

Many of the safeguards that were put in place due to Covid are coming to an end, such as jobless benefits and a moratorium on evictions. An overwhelming majority of participants in our Food for Families Program say they sometimes, often, or always worry about having enough food to feed their families, and 71 report less income due to the pandemic. As one PORCH participant told us: “Being in the PORCH Food for Families program means I have space to breathe and lessens the burden of high rent. I know I can count on feeding my children because PORCH will come through for us. It means fresh produce I can prepare in a variety of ways, and no one in my home will go hungry. It has been an absolute godsend for us!”

As 2021 comes to a close, can you make a donation to PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro? Donate here – chapelhill.porchcommunities.org/donate – or mail a check payable to PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro to P.O. Box 16363, Chapel Hill, NC 27516-6363. It costs $50 to provide one family with fresh food for a week. Can you help us serve more families in 2022? Consider becoming a sustainer by setting up monthly donations to PORCH. Every dollar we receive makes a meaningful difference in the fight against food insecurity.

Thank you for strengthening the safety net for our most vulnerable community members during these unprecedented times.
