Meet Food for Schools Sponsor Tim Gallagher of Gallagher Management Services
Through Gallagher Management Services LLC, Tim Gallagher provides financial services to companies that are in need of help: consulting, interim staffing, accounting and finance services, as well as teaching and training. The business is four years old, but Tim has been in this line of work since 2000.
Tim is also a proud Food for Schools (FFS) sponsor.
“It’s sad to think in a country as prosperous as the United States as well as the communities of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, there is food insecurity,” Tim says. “PORCH provides a very needed service.”
FFS provides supplemental food to students in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools who are hungry and struggling to concentrate in the classroom. Through FFS, PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro provides each school with $1,100 worth of snacks in a school year – $550 at the beginning of the school year and $550 after the holidays. The snacks – cheese crackers, granola bars, applesauce, apples, protein bars, trail mix, fruit bars, and more – are purchased in bulk, brought to a central location, and sorted. Then, school social workers pick up the healthy snacks on a designated day each semester. To learn more, check out our recent feature on this program.
“We need to build leaders of tomorrow, and, through education, there is hope,” Tim says. “But if the child is struggling because she or he is hungry and can’t completely focus on their studies, we are only hurting the future of our community. We need to support our children!”
With a focus on future generations, Tim and his family also give to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Shriners Hospital for Children.
“PORCH provides fresh and healthy food to people in our community that need it! Without the generous contributions of businesses such as mine and other members of the community, PORCH would not be unable to fulfill their mission,” Tim says. “The cost of food is not going down, especially the food PORCH provides. Just walk into any grocery store! Grassroots, non-profit organizations that provide services to help improve people’s quality of life are integral to the vitality of any community. I support PORCH because in my small way, I hope I can help make a difference that one day will help eliminate food insecurity and hunger – not only in our community, but in the country.”
