Meet Food for Schools Sponsor Alignment
Alignmint was founded by Martha Newport and is owned by Jen and Peter Winkler. They are affiliated with Keller Williams United in Chapel Hill and enjoy the opportunity to help buyers and sellers achieve their real estate goals in the Triangle area and beyond.
They specialize in applying their decades of experience to develop systems and processes that result in smoother transactions with more favorable outcomes for clients.
The business is a proud Food for Schools (FFS) sponsor. “PORCH’s mission to provide fresh food to families in need resonates deeply with us, as we believe that strong, healthy communities are the foundation for a thriving local economy and path to homeownership,” says Peter. “The Food for Schools program is particularly meaningful because it ensures that children, one of our most vulnerable populations, have access to nutritious meals, which is essential for their academic success and well-being. Supporting PORCH is an opportunity for us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our local families and neighbors.”
FFS provides supplemental food to students in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools who are hungry and struggling to concentrate. Through FFS, PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro provides each school with $1,100 worth of snacks in a school year – $550 at the beginning of the academic year and $550 after the holidays. The snacks – cheese crackers, granola bars, applesauce, apples, protein bars, trail mix, fruit bars, and more – are purchased in bulk, brought to a central location, and sorted. Then, school social workers pick up the healthy snacks on a designated day each semester.
Once the social workers divide the snacks among grade levels within their school, students simply let their teacher know when they are hungry and would like a snack to tide them over during the school day. Each school nurse gets a supply of snacks, too – a vital resource when students aren’t feeling well and need some sustenance.

In addition to supporting PORCH, Alignmint is committed to contributing to a variety of local causes. They regularly sponsor community events, support local schools, and partner with non-profits that focus on housing affordability, the arts, animal rescue, and environmental sustainability. These efforts are part of a broader mission to give back to the communities that support their small business.
“As a locally-owned small business, we understand that our success is directly tied to the well-being of the communities we serve,” Peter says. “Giving back isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s essential for fostering strong relationships and ensuring that the Triangle area remains a great place to live and work.”
