Families Need Healthy Food
PORCH helps families with children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools get the fresh and healthy foods their children deserve!
Each month, Food for Families volunteers sort and distribute bags of fresh produce, milk, eggs, and non-perishable food to 630 families (more than 2,570 individuals, including 1,450 children). Families are 16% Black, 15% Asian, 10% white, and 54% Latino. Participants also include refugees from Burma, Congo, Ukraine, and Syria.
Food for Families provides a unique variety and quantity of fresh foods (e.g. potatoes, green beans, apples, broccoli, zucchini, sweet potatoes, onions, peppers, strawberries, eggs, milk, and more). We also distribute grocery gift cards so that families can purchase cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, health care products, or additional food.
If you would like to participate in the program, just ask your child’s school school social worker for more information!
