Food for Families

Families Need Healthy Food

PORCH helps families with children in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools get the fresh and healthy foods their children deserve!

Each month, Food for Families volunteers stock the shelves of the PORCH Community Hub market with thousands of pounds of fresh and non-perishable food for the more than 800 families enrolled in the program (more than 3,079 individuals, including 1,530 children). We serve families who have lived in Chapel for generations as well as immigrants from all of the world.

Food for Families provides families with the opportunity to ‘shop’ the PORCH Community Hub’s free market once a month. There, they can receive around 30 pounds of fresh produce, meat or a plant-based protein, dairy or plant-based milk, eggs, deli items, bakery items, and two bags of pantry staples.

If you would like to participate in the program, just ask your child’s school school social worker for more information!
