Neighborhood Coordinators
Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors
Our mission is to fight hunger by mobilizing neighbors, building community, and providing fresh, healthy food—something we couldn’t do without our network of Neighborhood Coordinators! Through our Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors model, more than 160 Neighborhood Coordinators across Chapel Hill and Carrboro organize monthly food drives in their neighborhood for PORCH. Coordinators communicate our greatest donation needs to their neighbors, collect food donations, then drop them off at the PORCH Community Hub. It’s grassroots hunger relief in action! Each donation, no matter the size, adds up to something extraordinary. Together, our community regularly collects upwards of 10,000 pounds of nonperishables during each month’s food drives.
How it Works
PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro fights hunger through four programs: Food for Families, Food for Pantries, Food for Schools, and Food for Thought. Monthly neighborhood food drives support two of our programs, Food for Families—a monthly free grocery program that serves more than 800 families with children in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools—and Food for Pantries—a program that supports smaller, community-embedded pantries in Chapelboro with monthly donations of specialized foods they request. You can click here to read more about all of our programs.
