March 2024: The Latest from PORCH
- Fitness Together is hosting a food drive for PORCH through March 9. Their goal is to collect 250 items. Can you help? Drop off non-perishables at their Meadowmont location. Thanks in advance!
- Chelsea is more than a fabulous PORCH Volunteer – she’s also a wonderful baker! She works at Starfish Bakery and helped bake whoopie pies for all of our volunteers.
- In February, we had 630 families enrolled in our Food for Families program – more than 2,400 individuals, including more than 1,388 children! Our volunteers packed a total of 515 bags of non-perishable goods and loaded them into our participants’ cars, along with a gallon of milk, two dozen eggs, and a beautiful box of fresh fruits and vegetables. Our Burmese, Karen, and Congolese refugee families also received a bag of rice, garlic, sprouts, spinach, and onions. All families received a grocery store gift card, providing the dignity of choice. Additionally, more than 125 bags of non-perishable items were delivered to 10 of our Food For Pantries partners!
- The December 2023 Round Up partnership with Weaver Street Market raised $18,700 for PORCH. Since our partnership with Weaver Street Market started in 2015, their shoppers have donated an astounding $414,342 to PORCH. We are so grateful for the community support!
- 100 Women Who Give A Hoot – Chapel Hill/Durham presented us with a big check – $8,300 – for taking the prize at their Q4 Giving Event! Pictured are PORCH’s Laura Malinchock and Erin Riney with Tina Clossick (center). We were one of three non-profits nominated by the organization’s membership to make a pitch to receive donations collected at the event. Presentations are always inspiring and highlight so much need in our communities. Consider joining their next Giving Event!
