July 2023: The Latest from PORCH
- Nick Lotz helps at many of our pack and sort shifts, and he also organized a fantastic food drive for our PORCH families!
- The rain didn’t stop our mighty volunteers at the end of June! More than 550 families are now enrolled in Food for Families – that’s over 2,240 individuals and almost 1,300 children! Since children are out of school for the summer and not receiving school meals, we have increased the amount of food we are providing to help manage this burden on families. Together, we packed a total of 427 non-perishable bags that were distributed to participant families along with a gallon of milk, two dozen eggs, a large box of fresh fruits and vegetables, bunches of kale and chard that were generously donated from Wildflower Lane Farm, strawberries and blackberries from Farmer Foodshare, a bag of produce for our refugee families from Transplanting Traditions Farms, and a grocery gift card.
- Preparation is key! We are always off to a great start when Princess comes to help us set up for our sorting and packing shifts.
- The Alliance of Youth Leaders in the US group brought plenty of help as they double bagged 450 bags in preparation for packing food donations. We always appreciate their great work.
