It is with profound sadness that we must share the passing of Mack Koonce—longtime PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board Member, stalwart for the underserved, and beloved friend and husband.

In his more than two years as a member of the Board, Mack brought unparalleled experience and perspective from his careers in both hospitality and nonprofit leadership. It is an understatement to say that Mack was integral in the recent development of the PORCH Community Hub, just as he played integral roles as COO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and CEO of United Way of the Greater Triangle. His energy and insight have shaped not only the organizations he has been a part of, but also the lives of countless individuals touched by his work.

Mack’s legacy will be one of unwavering commitment to those in need and a deep love for his community. As we grieve his loss, we also celebrate Mack’s life and the lasting impact he has had on PORCH, his friends, family, and our community. We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and remain committed to honoring his work and vision by continuing to serve our community with the same exuberance that he did.
